Description

Our Retail Sales team is adding multiple Business Development Manager’s (BDM’s) to the team. This growth is due to territory expansion and current team member promotions. As a Retail Development Manager, you will work to create and uncover new sales opportunities within your assigned territory which consists of large Retailers, Grocers and Distributors. This is a role that is helping to uncover opportunities within some of the most strategic and visible accounts for SPS Commerce. In this role, you will gain an understanding of the supply chain processes, challenges, initiatives, and change events occurring within the prospects' organization, and through prospecting, properly align SPS Commerce with executive-level contacts at the buying level. 

 

Roles being added:

  • Senior BDM – Key Accounts: This person will partner with our Key Account Director on our most strategic retail accounts for SPS Commerce. You will work 1:1 with our Account Director. You will have approx. 5-10 accounts you will be developing relationships with. 
  • Senior BDM: You will partner with a team of Account Executives to build out a pipeline and identify opportunities within a defined set of accounts. You will have approx. 50-100 accounts you will be working with at any one time. 
  • Business Dev Manager: In this role you will support the Retail sales teams building out strategic plans, campaigns, and opportunity maps. You will be working with our Retail AE’s and other Sr. BDM’s on the team. This is a great opportunity to continue to grow your sales career with a lead SaaS company.

The Day to Day:

This is an outbound/prospecting role focusing on retail, grocery and distribution markets. You will be researching the accounts in your territory, identifying change events or triggers that might lead to a business opportunity for SPS Commerce. You will prospect into various departments and contacts across each account to get engagement. Your goal is to generate new sales opportunities by sparking interest of your prospects and gain commitment for a meeting with an Account Executive to explore how SPS Commerce can help them solve their business challenges. 

  • Maintain existing and establish new relationships within the prospect base through prospecting
  • Execute introductory and discovery calls with prospects to fully understand each organization's supply chain processes, challenges, initiatives, and change events
  • Aligning prospect's business pain with SPS Commerce solutions and gaining prospect interest to explore a partnership
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams to support the business relationship with the prospect and ensure proper execution of the sales strategy
  • Serve as a mentor to the Retail Development Manager assigned to the territory and collaborate to uncover new sales opportunities
  • Document key findings, progress, insights, and pipeline velocity in Salesforce.com

 

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree OR some post-secondary education and 2+ years of sales or similar experience plus:  
    • Sr. BDM – Key Accounts: the above experience plus 8+ years of sales/account mgmt. or relevant experience
    •  Sr. BDM: the above experience plus 5+ years of relevant work experience in sales, account management or outbound lead generation role.
    • BDM: the above experience with 2 years of sales experience, account management or outbound lead generation role.
  • Relevant work experience includes sales prospecting, account management, sales consultant, or related experience with documented performance levels meeting or exceeding sales plans
  • Proven competence with Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and a CRM, preferably Salesforce.com
  • Clear, concise, and confident communicator (verbal, non-verbal, written), including effectively altering vocal tone/inflection, listening, and writing relevant and engaging content
  • Creative and adaptable improviser with an ability to work off-script when executing new approaches or responding to unforeseen obstacles
