Description

The Senior Supply Chain Strategist is a subject matter expert in retail supply chain and retail operations. You will consult on business processes and retail industry best practices, driving value through electronic trading across the order, item, and sales data exchanges between buying organizations and their trading partners.

The Day to Day: 

  • Strategic Consulting & Thought Leadership:
  • Provide insights and recommendations on retailer’s supply chain improvements, strategic planning, change management, and globalization.
  • Identify and develop strategic initiatives to support the business objectives of customers and SPS Commerce, offering thought leadership in supply chain strategies related to item data management, inventory, order fulfillment, and operations.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to retailers, providing an objective view of strategic, tactical, and operational business drivers.
  • Process Optimization & Automation:
  • Advise retailers on process streamlining to enhance supply chain strategies via electronic trading.
  • Champion change management, promoting automation and adherence to strategies that drive long-term value.
  • Develop scalable supply chain strategies in alignment with retailer’s objectives, defining, scoping, and documenting supply chain processes, data exchange requirements, and business value for specific projects.
  • Electronic Trading Guidance:
  • Offer guidance on electronic trading transactions (EDI, XML, and customized formats) that align with business and supply chain processes for current and future SPS Commerce customers.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Work closely with SPS account teams, customer success management, implementation teams and sales teams to achieve customer and company goals.
  • Collaborate with the retail sales team to build relationships with potential customers, providing consultative guidance and conducing business assessments with relevant collateral to drive confidence and support sales efforts.
  • Continuous Learning & Industry Knowledge
  • Stay up to date on product features, product positioning, competition, industry trends and general business developments.
  • Develop and refine core collateral (e.g., vendor guides, solution documentation, value assessments) in support of SPS and the customer’s needs.
  • Additional responsibilities:
  • Contribute to strategic projects and support various company initiatives as needed.
  • This position requires up to 15% travel.

Required Experience & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree plus at least 10 years of related experience; master’s degree plus at least 6 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Significant experience in developing and implementing automated business strategies that improve retail operations.
  • Deep knowledge of General Merchandise, Home & Pet retail supply chains.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence across all levels of a customer’s organization.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Proactive, self-driven, and capable of managing multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Adept at navigating and reducing ambiguity by applying industry expertise and broad solution knowledge to guide customers in implementing technical or operational changes, including third-party components, to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Skilled at understanding complex technical concepts and translating them into clear, business-focused language, enabling customers to make informed decisions and drive operational performance.

Nice to haves:

  • 3+ years of EDI experience, including managing or implementing EDI program.
  • Working knowledge of business systems/applications (ERP, accounting, warehouse management systems such as SAP, Oracle, JDA, JD Edwards).
  • Formal training, education, or certifications in Retail Supply Chain and/or Retail Business Operations.
  • Post-graduate or MBA is a plus.
