Position Summary:  

The Senior Tax Accountant is responsible for overseeing the company’s sales and use tax, VAT, and other government-mandated business compliance, including tax research, evaluation of revenue streams and billing processes, compilation of data, and tax return preparation. This role will be responsible for the company’s indirect tax solution and third-party provider relationships to ensure timely filing of returns and payment of tax.  This position will influence the company’s tax conclusions by providing guidance based on their research, analysis, and experience, and will work closely with the Domestic and International Tax Managers, and the billing, accounting, and financial reporting teams.

 

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Manage third-party relationships to ensure the timely and accurate preparation, review, and filing of recurring sales and use and VAT returns for 45+ states, cities, and countries
  • Prepare and review federal, state, and international tax provision workpapers and calculations
  • Assist with M&A planning opportunities, including due diligence, legal entity rationalization, and post-acquisition integration
  • Respond to financial statement information requests from internal business partners and external auditors
  • Analyze and reconcile monthly tax reports, and prepare tax account reconciliations and journal entries, in accordance with SOX internal controls
  • Assist with Transfer Pricing calculations
  • Assist management in compiling audit support to be provided to State & Local jurisdictions
  • Research and resolve notices and inquiries from tax authorities
  • Evaluate the company’s revenue streams, billing processes, and systems to ensure accuracy related to the assessment and collection of proper tax on customer sales
  • Influence and advise internal stakeholders regarding the company’s taxability and nexus conclusions based on monitoring and researching state and foreign law changes, tax rules, and tax regulations
  • Provide timely response to escalated sales tax-related customer billing inquiries
  • Manage the tax due date calendar to ensure complete and timely US federal, state, and international tax reporting
  • Assist with equity, domestic and international tax, and accounting projects, as needed

Required Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, or related field
  • A minimum of 3+ years of related experience within a large multi-state company or public accounting firm
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and project management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work and multitask in a fast-paced environment and effectively manage deadlines
  • Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to work effectively in a team setting
  • Prior experience with indirect tax regulations for state, local, and international jurisdictions
  • Ability to translate, simplify, and communicate (both verbal and written) complex information to individuals with varying levels of expertise and job roles
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook), most importantly Excel

 

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Public accounting experience
  • SaaS or Software company experience
  • Indirect tax solution experience (Vertex, Avalara, OneSource)

The salary range for this role considers several factors, including education, relevant skills, work history, certifications, location, and more.  

The annual salary range for this role is: $62,100- $100,000. The actual salary offered will be determined based on the factors listed above and may fall anywhere within the range.
