Position Summary:   

We are seeking a Senior Application Engineer – Workday HCM to serve as a technical leader in the design, architecture, and implementation of our Workday Human Capital Management (HCM) solutions. This role blends deep Workday platform expertise with application engineering and systems integration knowledge. You will partner with HR, IT, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable, sustainable, and optimized Workday solutions that drive business outcomes and enhance the employee experience. 

This is a highly technical and strategic role suited for a seasoned professional who can operate as both a solution architect and a hands-on configurator. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Solution Architecture & Design 
  • Lead the architectural design of Workday HCM solutions across related modules 
  • Translate business requirements into scalable, best-practices Workday configurations, workflows, and integrations 
  • Develop technical roadmaps and design documents for Workday and associated HR systems 
  • Technical Implementation & Development 
  • Build, configure, and maintain complex business processes, calculated fields, condition rules, integrations (EIB, Core Connectors, Workday Studio), and custom reports 
  • Design and implement secure and efficient data integrations between Workday and third-party systems (e.g., payroll, benefits providers, learning systems) 
  • Create and facilitate test and dev strategy for updates and upgrades  
  • Oversee data migrations, system conversions, and tenant builds across the implementation and production environments 
  • Strategic Advisory & Governance 
  • Serve as the technical advisor to HR and IT stakeholders on Workday capabilities, limitations, and best practices 
  • Provide thought leadership in Workday release management and adoption of new features 
  • Define and enforce architectural standards, development protocols, and system governance frameworks 
  • Collaboration & Support 
  • Act as the technical escalation point for Workday-related issues and enhancements 
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with HR, Payroll, Finance, and Security teams to ensure system alignment and performance 
  • Support business data ingress/egress needs including bulk loads 
  • Mentor junior team members, code review, and provide guidance on complex configuration and integrations scenarios

Minneapolis, MN (Hyrbid) 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field. 
  • 6+ years of hands-on experience implementing and supporting Workday HCM, with 3+ years in a senior technical or architect role. 
  • Expertise in Workday HCM configuration, including business processes, calculated fields, security, and EIBs. 
  • Demonstrated experience with Workday integrations: EIB, Core Connectors, Workday Studio, Web Services (SOAP/REST), and custom reporting. 
  • Strong understanding of enterprise architecture, HR systems landscapes, and SaaS best practices. 
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Workday Pro or Workday Partner Certifications in multiple HCM modules or integrations 
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps tools. 
  • Experience with middleware platforms and enterprise identity/security systems 

 

What We Offer:   

At SPS Commerce, we are committed to ensuring that each employee's compensation reflects their unique experiences, performance, and skills in their role. The salary range for this role considers several factors, including education, relevant skills, work history, certifications, location, and more.  

The annual salary range for this role is: $100,200 - $150,400 base salary + equity. The actual salary offered will be determined based on the factors listed above and may fall anywhere within the range.   

Additionally, you may also be eligible to participate in an annual incentive program. An incentive award, if granted, is based on individual and/or organizational performance.
