Position Summary: 

 

The Director of Cyber Defense will lead and oversee critical information security functions including Application & Cloud Security, Product Security, and Security Operations, reporting directly to the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO).  You will drive strategy for the Cyber Defense functions, align priorities with business objectives, drive execution, and ensure quality operations within the team.  You will work extensively across the Technology and Product teams to establish and elevate secure design standards, implement processes and solutions to support secure development and delivery, and protect our SPS systems and employees. This position will also play a key role in the secure adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI, LLMs, MCP, Agentic AI) across SPS and within the Cybersecurity team.  

 

Key Responsibilities: 

 

  • Develop vision, set priorities, and drive execution for product and platform security functions such as application and cloud security, and for enterprise security capabilities, services, and platforms such as email and SaaS security.
  • Develop vision, set priorities, and guide execution for Security Operations: detection, forensics, and incident response (DFIR) capabilities, vulnerability management, and the related services and platforms.
  • Lead planning, alignment, and execution for the function globally.
  • Deliver measurable risk reduction for the organization while helping accelerate business growth.
  • Directly lead the team consisting of security leads and engineers of multiple levels and provide leadership oversight for managed services partners.
  • Hire, develop, and retain top security talent and develop a high-performing team.
  • Partner closely with Product Engineering teams for objectives, requirements, and solutions.
  • Interface with a wide variety of teams and partners to achieve security outcomes, focusing on risk-based controls aligned with business objectives.
  • Drive adoption of automation and AI across all security functions.
  • Drive performance, value, and business outcomes through third party providers, including OEM solution providers, value added resellers, consultants, and MSP/MSSP/MDR partners.
  • Provide expertise and resources to support secure AI enablement across the business.
  • Represent Security in mergers and acquisitions due diligence and integration activities.
  • Develop and maintain deep and broad knowledge of best practices, vendors, and industry trends.
  • Develop and nurture relationships across the company as needed to influence team strategy, support execution of security priorities, and build a positive culture of accountability and collaboration.
  • Contribute to development of overall SPS Security strategy and outcomes as a member of the Security leadership team.

Minneapolis, MN (Hybrid)

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree plus at least 10 years of Cybersecurity experience; Master’s degree plus at least 6 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 4+ years of direct management experience
  • Strong technical knowledge rooted in experience implementing security controls at all layers.
  • Broad understanding of virtually every aspect of information technology - applications, networks, infrastructure, software engineering, operations, and cloud.
  • Proven experience developing leaders and demonstrated experience working through others to complete work and resolve issues
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (to both small and large audiences and to executive management and customers)
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Experience with cloud providers; AWS preferred

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Prior experience in software engineering, SaaS, and/or Cloud Security
  • Language Proficiency Preferred: Python, Java, Javascript
  • Understanding of private, public, and hybrid cloud operations
  • Working knowledge of Agile operating principles and processes
  • Relevant industry certifications such as CISSP, CISA, CISM

 

What We Offer:

The salary range for this role considers several factors, including education, relevant skills, work history, certifications, location, and more.

The annual salary range for this role is: $150,000- $240,00. The actual salary offered will be determined based on the factors listed above and may fall anywhere within the range.
